MDS-OP: Optimization

MDS-OP is a parametric optimization function that considers unit cell parametric geometry and material database described in terms of linear and nonlinear constitutive model parameters as design variables in an optimization problem and overall ductility or strength as an objective function. Figure 1(top) show initial (as manufactured) and optimized parameters describing plain weave architecture. Figure 1 (bottom) shows that the optimized architecture provides 15% increased strength in warp direction without sacrificing the strength in fill direction and all that by keeping the tow volume fraction fixed.
