MDS Applications
Our product lines are MDS-C and MDS-D (click here for more details).
Current applications of MDS-C include:
-
life prediction and durability (fracture, fatigue) of structural components made of composites (fibrous, woven, braided), concrete, nanomaterials, or any other microstructure
-
impact on structures made of the above materials with microstructures
The key application of the MDS-D line is to link continuum and discrete (atomistic) scales, primarily for nanotechnology applications.
Current Users
Seven organizations make use of our two products.
These organizations include:
-
Rolls-Royce Aerospace (CMC airfoil in the Joint Strike Fighter)
-
Automotive Composites Consortium (polymer composites) consisting of GM, Ford, and Chrysler
-
General Electric (polymer composites)
-
Simulia (ABAQUS)
-
Navy (sandwich structures)
-
DOE (nanomaterials)
-
AFRL (concrete)
Selected applications of MDS-C: (a) fatigue of tailcone (Rolls-Royce); (b) crash of composite tube (GM); (c) impact of steel/polyurea plates (Navy); (d) wrinkling of fibers in GE90 compression molding process; (e) and crack growth in metal-composite ships (Navy)
